A Very Incomplete List of Dates I Want to Go On…

I’ve been thinking about all the dates I haven’t been on yet.

Not because I’m running out of good stories. Because every time I think I’ve tried everything, someone comes along with an idea I wish I’d thought of first.

I want to get dressed up for a ridiculously good dinner, order too much food and end up back at the hotel with my shoes in my hand. I want to go to a museum with someone who has no idea what they’re looking at either, so we can confidently make things up. I want to see a musical with a man who’s convinced he’ll hate it and catch him humming one of the songs the next morning.

I want a weekend away with absolutely no sensible itinerary. A long lunch that turns into drinks. A hotel room with a bath big enough for two and nowhere we need to be until checkout.

I’d also like to be surprised. I’m usually the one with the plan, the booking details and six tabs open on where we should eat. There’s something very sexy about receiving a message that says, “I’ve organised it. Just tell me which night you’re free.”

And yes, I still want the less respectable dates. The ones where we make an ambitious plan to go out, get distracted while I’m getting ready and eventually have to cancel dinner.

With more travel ahead, I’ve caught myself wondering which of these will happen first, and where. I’m hoping the answer is somewhere I haven’t considered yet.

So, what would you do with me if you had the whole evening? Or the whole weekend? Tell me the actual plan. I want to hear the strange ideas, the extravagant ones and the ones you think I’ll say no to.

You might be surprised.
